Wonkette reports on CNN show regarding this phrase:
9:09PM - John MacArthur, radio evangelist, speaks on the electoral process: "God ordains leaders and puts down leaders and kings."
9:25PM - MacArthur again: "I don't believe in separation of church and state, as long as we're talking about the true church. The issue is the one true church of Jesus Christ in America, which cannot be separated from the country."
Actually, I feel the same way, except that the one true church is Episcopalianism. God save the Queen. Or Tony. Or Rowan. Frank. Whoever. Wait, George Bush Sr. is an Episcopalian. On the other hand, so was FDR. And someday, Episcopalians will rename themselves with a word containing two syllables.
Untill then, I appreciate that all false [or "free"] churches and the papists, are restrained in the public sphere.
I agree completely -- except that everyone knows that God is a Methodist ;o)

Well, Richard, I think God is probably a Methodist in Wales. But he did give us Rowan from there, the first foreign Archbishop.
"Methodist" also has three syllables, which is better than "Episcopalian."
