Sounds like parts of Oryx & Crake - all everyone wants, basically, is sex, and everything else is repression and sublimation. So you end up in a sex-soaked world that doesn't have any art or literature or spirituality. They were all just substitutes, anyways. Atwood doesn't seem to be able to come up with any arguments against this process, though she does seem to wish it were otherwise. That we could leave a bit of room for Shakespeare.
